New County Data on Nutrition and Food Insecurity Across California
February 17, 2010
We are pleased announce the release of the 2010 County Nutrition and Food Insecurity Profiles, which feature county-level nutrition and food insecurity information across California. The County Profiles provide local evidence of the need for healthy, affordable food in communities and the extent to which federal nutrition programs can help alleviate this need. Found to be a key advocacy and educational tool, the County Profiles are used to inform decision-makers, community advocates, health professionals, anti-hunger advocates, the media, and general public.
This year, the County Nutrition and Food Insecurity
Profiles include the following information:

Food Insecurity and Health Indicators;
County demographics;
Participation rates for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and Summer Nutrition Programs;
Program Access Index (PAI) rating, which examines participation by income-eligible individuals in the county's Food Stamp Program;
Local fiscal impact of Food Stamp Program underutilization; and,
Participation information for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
