vehicle from eligibility determination.

The California state legislature is returning for another session and facing the obstacles of the current budget crisis, but CFPA has focused our 2002 State Agenda to take cost-effective and money-saving steps to reducing hunger.
A progress report on moving barriers to food stamp participation has been issued.
National food stamp participation increases as it continues to drop in California.
A state grant is available for school nutrition policy from the CDE for Model School Nutrition and Physical Activity Policy Grants.

There has been a considerable amount of attention paid to the issues of hunger, food stamps, and summer meals (editorials and tips on how to write good letters to the editor)
The House and Senate passed the final FY2002 Agriculture Appropriations Bill and is waiting for the President's signature
The Senate is scheduled to take up the Farm Bill on Monday, December 3
The Senate Agriculture
Committee passed its Farm Bill last week. We hope to persuade our
Senators to offer an amendment that would 1) fully restore benefits to all
legal immigrants and 2) eliminate the vehicle test so that hungry people who
own a reliable car may still qualify for food stamps.
