AB2013 Dies. AB 2013, the bill to end finger imaging for food stamps and welfare, has died.  Fierce opposition from the CA District Attorney’s Association, LA County and the Schwarzenegger Administration led to the bill’s demise. So, for now, the wasteful and burdensome finger-imaging system will remain in place. But given the preponderance of evidence that the system should be eliminated, we should expect the Governor to reverse his position in the near future. We can almost hear the Governor saying: “Save money and fight hunger by ending finger imaging?  Fantastic!” For more on this continuing effort, contact george@cfpa.net.

Preserve Current Investments in Nutrition

Senate Budget Sub-Committee #3 will hold a hearing on Department of Social Service budget issues, including CalWORKs and food stamps on April 15th.

Assembly Budget Sub-Committee #1 on Health and Human Services will hold a hearing on Department of Social Services budget issues including CalWORKs and food stamps on May 5th.

The Legislative Analyst’s Office  recommends rejecting the proposed budget cuts in Governor Schwarzenegger’s proposed budget.   To read the full LAO analysis of the proposed budget on food stamps, click here.
